After our crazy house flood in April 2013 (which was honestly so traumatic that I decided to not address it much on the blog - this is a happy place!), we knocked down the drywall and realized we had a big open space that had been hiding underneath our stairwell. So when it came time to put the walls back up, we finished the space under the stairs to be a fort area for the kids. It's only 4 feet tall, but it is a nice "L" shape that they love to call their own. To make it extra special, we enlisted Grandpa Brown, our family carpenter, to create a custom dutch door to attach to the front of the space. He spent many hours, I'm sure he made countless trips to the hardware store, and even had 1 swift visit to the ER to wrap up a wounded tendon in his hand (darned saw!)! The finished product is nothing short of amazing. Our kids love their fun space and especially the special door that lets them have a little clubhouse. When we have kids over to play, it is without fail the first thing they run towards. In addition to the awesome door, Grammy sewed some blue curtains that the kids can hang up to make the door their own puppet theater. We just love it! Thank you Grammy and Grandpa, we love you!

Mystery Reader
Every Friday, Gavin's classroom welcomes a mystery reader to come in for storytime. Last Friday, my turn arrived. It was so fun to walk in and see the surprise and excitement on Gavin's face! I picked a couple of his favorite books (currently, Chimpansneeze and Diary Of a Fly). Such fun for me to join his world for a bit!

Happy New Year!
Bring on 2014! We are excited for all that lies ahead. We take an annual photo with a sign to usher in the new year. Some attempts are better than others, and sometimes the outtakes are more fun that the final version! Happy New Year!
